What is silence? How many silences do we experience?
Life is sustained by the consistency of silence. It is a full void. Full because it has great value and meaning in every fragment of our lives. The silence of the beginning and the end. Silences in which to take refuge, from which to flee; generative and oppressive silences; silences of wonder and fear; of recollection and isolation, of contemplation and art... An emptiness because it does not impose itself, it does not conceal, it does not pander. Accustomed to noise, to connections, to the "full", silence appears unknown and mysterious.
The meeting aims to explore the different forms and meanings of silence from two different perspectives proposed by the authors, who will dialogue with each other and with those present: ART AND WORKPLACES.
The paper from which Clara Rota moves opens us to the silences of the body, of objects, of gestures, of the senses, of imagination, of passion. The silence that understands, that is not satisfied with the surface but enters, penetrates. The silence that regenerates like a cure, that generates, that transforms: a vital silence.
Maria Giovanna Garuti, analysing words and unspoken words in organisations, invites us to reflect on the quality of relationships in the workplace and elsewhere, on the fragility of words and identities, on silences that reveal limits, perhaps even some pretence.
On this occasion the authors' two new books will be presented: "Carta Bianca. Il silenzio di una Passione" and "Parole, silenzi e non-detti nelle Organizzazione", both published by Mimesis.
CLARA ROTA The material becomes poetry and the fingers touch the words. This is how she wants to tell her story. She was born in Milan and has lived for some years in the red Livorno for her horizon. She has always loved paper, its perfume, its lightness and its ancient existence. Paper is the reason for her artisan destiny, a journey of research into the applied arts. A journey of knowledge of that characteristic, fragile, silent, patient, repetitive, small gesture in contact with the material, which produces an extraordinary sensory pleasure.
MARIA GIOVANNA GARUTI An occupational psychologist, she participated in the creation of ISMO. She develops consulting and training activities for public and private organisational worlds. Through constant study and practice in Italy and abroad, she has deepened the methodologies of psychosocial intervention and work with groups. In 2011 she was awarded the AIF prize for her contribution to training.
