My attempt today is to focus a little more on the subject of the future and a little more on the condition of young people. In order to do this, a few general reminders are needed. The first is that our Western modernity is founded on the concept of the future. We moderns, starting with Thomas Hobbes, the 17th century philosopher who inaugurated political philosophy, live according to the centrality of the parameter of the future: project, progress, anxiety about the future, construction of a better future. Hobbes referred to the mythological figure of Prometheus, etymologically the one who foresees, who brings with him concern, anxiety, sacrifice. The Promethean model is primarily a sacrificial model: one renounces some things of the present in order to build the future.
